We had another glorious scenic train ride through the Swiss Alps which climbed from Chur at 584 metres above sea level to its greatest height at Ospizio Bernina where we reached 2253 metres above sea level. I think this ride, the Bernina Express, was more picturesque then the Glacier Express of yesterday. We were right a
mongst the ice and snow near the tops of the mountains and our commentary reminded us constantly of the marvel of engineering that had the Swiss build this railway.
When we crossed the border into Italy, we stopped at Tirano for lunch. The weather was miserable, cold and rainy and we sought shelter in a small pub. The whole streets' shop windows were decorated with cycling paraphernalia for the Italian cycle tour. So for the Italians there is not only the soccer, there is cycling as well. There were men in the pub watching it on TV. The train took us back to Chur and we had another lovely dinner in our hotel restaurant
